The Overseas Community Affairs Council (OCAC) has organized a 7-country performance tour of Asia by the New Year Festival Cultural Delegation. OCAC Minister Wu Hsin-hsing stated in Keelung on the evening of January 20 that the OCAC sends excellent performing groups from Taiwan overseas to perform every Chinese New Year. This year, the theme is “Taiwanese, Spring, Big reunion”, the aim of the tour being to unite overseas compatriots through music and art.
Wu stated that, to allow people in Taiwan to enjoy the strong Taiwanese style performances, the OCAC arranged a pre-departure public performance at Keelung Cultural Center. “King of Formosan Songs” Wenxia, Taiwanese band The Chairman, Golden Melody-winning Hakka singer Huang Lian-yu, and Yu Tai-yan took turns to charm the audience, displaying soft power with distinctive Taiwan flavor.
When presenting the flag to the delegation leader, National Policy Adviser Chang Fu-mei, Wu stated that, by promoting Taiwan’s splendid culture internationally, the world will see the burgeoning vitality of our country.
Hundreds of people packed into Keelung Cultural Hall despite the coldest evening of winter so far and the atmosphere was lively and happy.
The New Year Festival Cultural Delegation will tour seven countries in Asia from February 3 to March 5, taking in 13 cities, including Tokyo in Japan, Davao in the Philippines, Bangkok in Thailand, Penang, Lahad Datu, Kota Kinabalu, Batu Pahat, and Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia, Bali, Surabaya and Jakarta in Indonesia, Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam, and Phnom Penh in Cambodia.
