Taipei, Jan. 12 (CNA) The Taipei Representative Office in the United Kingdom on Jan. 10 reported a new COVID-19 case, bringing the total number of cases in the office to three, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) said Tuesday.
In a statement, MOFA said a male employee was the third in the office to test positive for COVID-19, but had been in home quarantine since Dec. 24, so there was no need to trace contacts.
As the U.K. has experienced an escalation in COVID-19 infections due to the more contagious virus variant, the representative office in the country has continued to implement remote work and asked staff to work on a rotational basis to prevent infections, the ministry said
In addition, MOFA said, the office has intensified efforts to ensure staffers report their health status on a daily basis, while the office is avoiding any unnecessary meetings and has stepped up disinfection of the premises and surrounding areas as a precautionary measure.
Consular services in the U.K. are being handled through reservations and where possible individuals are being encouraged to file mail-in applications for services, MOFA said.
According to Johns Hopkins University's Coronavirus Resource Center statistics, the U.K. had reported about 3.13 million COVID-19 cases and 82,096 deaths as of Tuesday.
