A group of 76 people from the Hop Sing Tong visited the OCAC and was received by OCAC Minister Wu on October 29.
Wu said that the Hop Sing Tong’s firm support of the ROC and its ideal of freedom is worthy of respect.
Senior advisor Ping-Yin Chiu expressed his gratitude to the government and the OCAC for caring about overseas compatriots for years.
Led by its President Ping-hang Wong, a group of 76 people of the Hop Sing Tong from the United States visited Taiwan and was received by Overseas Community Affairs Council (OCAC) Minister Wu Hsin-hsing on October 29. Wu said that the Hop Sing Tong has been a firm supporter of the ROC and the thought of Dr. Sun Yat-sen. Their patriotism and passion of upholding democracy are worthy of respect.
Wu stated that he is grateful to the Hop Sing Tong for its devotion in terms of taking care of Chinese immigrants, striving for the welfare of overseas compatriots, helping resolve disputes among overseas compatriot communities and assisting the Culture Centers of Taipei Economic and Cultural Offices for many years. He hoped that every branch leader of the Hop Sing Tong could have a better understanding of Taiwan’s development in various aspects after seeing the results of Taiwan’s construction efforts over the past few years. Wu expressed the hope they will continue to use their influence when they return to their places of residence, thus helping promote Taiwan internationally.
Senior advisor Ping-Yin Chiu said that the Hop Sing Tong has always supported the ROC and embraced the ideas of freedom and democracy for more than 100 years. During their visit to Taiwan, all members of the group had acquired a better understanding of Taiwan in terms of culture, economy and diplomacy. Taiwan is a place that enjoys the sobriquet “Asia’s light house of democracy.” He expressed his deep gratitude to the government and the OCAC for caring about overseas compatriots for many years. He pledged that the Hop Sing Tong will actively continue to show its support and passion for the ROC through concrete actions.
