The Central Election Commission (CEC) formally announced Friday that Taiwan will hold its next presidential and legislative elections on Jan. 13, 2024.
The CEC also said registration for candidates running in the presidential election and those competing in the legislative elections will take place Nov. 20-24.
The CEC said it will review the eligibility of the registered presidential and vice presidential candidates by Dec. 5 and announce the candidates' list on Dec. 15.
Televised policy platforms for the candidates will be conducted between Dec. 16 and Jan. 12, it said.
The date for the presidential election was in line with past precedent.
Since the presidential election was moved to January for the first time in 2012 to align it with the legislative elections, it has been held on Jan. 14, Jan. 16, and Jan. 11 in 2012, 2016 and 2020, respectively.
On the legislative elections, the review of their candidacy will be completed by Dec. 15, with the final list confirmed on Jan. 2.
The CEC will hold public policy presentations for the candidates between Jan. 3 and 12, it said.
