Taipei, Oct. 21 (CNA) The Danjiang Bridge will feature themed lighting shows for four weekends starting Oct. 31, the Highway Bureau said.

From 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on weekends, the bridge will feature rotating festival-themed light displays, while weekday shows during the same hours will feature colors representing the four seasons, Chiang Chian-ming (江堅銘), an official with the Highway Bureau's Northern Region Branch Maintenance Office, told CNA.

After 8 p.m., the bridge's lighting will revert to its regular autumn theme, Chiang said.

The festival-themed displays use flowing patterns and changing colors on tube-shaped lights to create different atmospheres, the office said.

The themes will include Republic of China (Taiwan) National Day, Valentine's Day as well as the Qixi Festival -- the Chinese equivalent of Valentine's day -- Mother's Day, Father's Day, Christmas, Lunar New Year's Eve, the Mid-Autumn Festival and the Dragon Boat Festival.

Under the bridge's regular lighting schedule, the seasonal displays are usually switched on at sunset, with spring colors shown from March to May, summer from June to August, autumn from September to November, and winter from December through February of the following year, the office said.

After 9 p.m., the lights switch to blue and then green at 1 a.m. to reduce visual strain. After midnight, their brightness is reduced to conserve energy while maintaining road visibility and minimizing disruption to nearby residents, the office said.

The Highway Bureau urged drivers not to watch the light displays while driving to avoid accidents. Chiang recommended viewing the shows on foot from the bridge's pedestrian paths, where visitors can observe the lighting effects up close.

The Danjiang Bridge, which connects the Tamsui and Bali districts of New Taipei, opened to traffic in May 2026. Designed by the late British-Iraqi architect Zaha Hadid, officials have described the bridge as a new international landmark for Taiwan.
