Junior NATEA Seattle Launches Inaugural Robotics, CS, and AI Summer Camp at UW.
SEATTLE - Junior NATEA, a nonprofit organization led by Taiwanese American youth and serving as the youth chapter of the North American Taiwanese Engineering and Science Association, successfully hosted its inaugural Robotics, Computer Science, and Artificial Intelligence Summer Camp from July 27 to 31 at the University of Washington in Seattle.
The five-day camp welcomed students in grades five through nine from the local Seattle area, California, and Taiwan. Through a rich blend of hands-on technical projects and collaborative exercises, participants explored various technology-related subjects while sharpening their communication, teamwork, and practical problem-solving skills.
Designed as an introductory technology program, the camp featured interactive courses in computer programming, robotics, and fundamental concepts of artificial intelligence. The curriculum laid a solid foundation in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education, preparing students for potential future participation in prestigious robotics competitions such as FIRST or VEX.
In addition to technical learning, organizers arranged structured team-building activities, a guided tour of the University of Washington campus, and energetic outdoor games, providing an engaging environment where learning and mentorship go hand in hand.
Co-founded in 2024 by President Charlotte Yang and Vice President Matthew Yang, Junior NATEA is dedicated to uniting Taiwanese American youth, connecting students with experienced industry mentors from the technology sector, and promoting cross-generational knowledge sharing. The organization has rapidly expanded across several U.S. states as well as Taiwan.
Reflecting on the event, Charlotte Yang shared that the camp gave her the privilege of witnessing students step outside their comfort zones to systematically build confidence. She highlighted that the youth volunteers grew tremendously through their teaching and service experiences, demonstrating the deep commitment of Taiwanese American youth to giving back to their communities and nurturing the next generation.
Hao-Ran Hsu, deputy director of Junior NATEA’s Seattle chapter, added that the camp integrated PaGamO, a widely acclaimed game-based learning platform developed in Taiwan, to boost student participation and enthusiasm through interactive education.
Peichen Chung, Director of the Culture Center of TECO in Seattle, expressed her sincere appreciation and praise for Junior NATEA’s leadership and youth volunteers. She commended their hard work and dedication in bringing this high-quality STEM camp to fruition, noting that such youth-led initiatives play a crucial role in promoting tech education and fostering connections within the overseas Taiwanese community.
