Taipei, Feb. 11 (CNA) The Taipei City government on Wednesday signed a NT$12.2 billion (US$380 million) agreement with Nvidia for the T17 and T18 plots of land at Beitou-Shilin Technology Park, with Mayor Chiang Wan-an (蔣萬安) saying construction could begin as early as June.

The deal grants the AI chipmaker 50-year land surface rights, extendable by up to 20 years, Chiang said at a press conference.

"Taipei is Nvidia's home," Chiang said, calling the agreement a major milestone and pledging full municipal support.

According to the city government, the contract was signed with Nvidia's Taiwan subsidiary, with Chiang and company representative Mark Steven Hoose signing on behalf of the two sides.

Under Nvidia's investment plan, more than NT$40 billion will be spent during construction, and operations are expected to create over 10,000 jobs, Chiang said.

Chiang said he hopes to attend the groundbreaking ceremony with Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang (黃仁勳) and will continue updating Huang on the project by email.

Huang is scheduled to visit Taiwan from June 2-5 for Computex Taipei, though his attendance at the ceremony will depend on his schedule, Chiang added.
