The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced that the Taiwanese film “Left-handed Girl (左撇子女孩)” has been shortlisted for the International Feature Film category at the 98th Academy Awards. Minister of Culture Li Yuan congratulated the production team on the film’s outstanding achievement, noting that it distinguished itself among 86 submissions and expressing confidence that it will advance to the final round of nominations.

According to the Ministry of Culture (MOC), “Left-handed Girl” marks the feature film debut of director Tsou Shih-ching (鄒時擎). The film also brought on board Sean Baker, winner of the Palme d’Or at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival and the Academy Award for Best Director, as its screenwriter, editor, and producer.

The MOC noted that the film has garnered significant international attention for its strong creative team and distinctive narrative. It received the Gan Foundation Award for Distribution at Cannes Critics’ Week and was invited to major international film festivals in Canada, South Korea, and Italy. In addition, the film earned nine nominations at the 62nd Golden Horse Awards.

The MOC reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the production team’s North American promotional efforts during the critical voting period, with the aim of securing Taiwan’s next Oscar win since “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (臥虎藏龍).”
