The delegation hosted a fellowship dinner that brought together Taiwan alumni and youth representatives from various regions.
Legislative Yuan President Han Kuo-yu hosted a banquet for the delegation and took commemorative photos with the guests.
A 40-member delegation of the World Federation of Taiwan Alumni Associations (WFTAA), led by President Lin Chi-kuo, recently visited Taiwan to strengthen collaboration on the cultivation of overseas compatriot students. During the visit, the delegation met with the Overseas Community Affairs Council (OCAC), holding discussions with Minister Hsu Chia-ching and Deputy Minister Lee Yen-hui on future strategies for nurturing overseas compatriot talents.
Minister Hsu Chia-ching expressed her appreciation to the WFTAA for its longstanding support in recruiting and caring for overseas compatriot students. She noted that more than 40,000 overseas compatriot students are currently studying in Taiwan, underscoring the growing international recognition and appeal of Taiwan’s higher education system. Minister Hsu encouraged alumni to continue recommending outstanding students and reaffirmed the OCAC’s commitment to further enhancing its policies and programs, positioning Taiwan as a key starting point for global talent development.
Deputy Minister Lee Yen-hui highlighted that Taiwan has educated more than 170,000 overseas compatriot students to date. She emphasized that policies related to overseas compatriot education are continuously evolving in response to industrial transformation and upgrading. Vice Minister Lee also commended WFTAA members for their remarkable achievements across various sectors, noting that their success reflects great pride for Taiwan.
President Lin Chi-kuo reflected on the more than 70-year history of overseas compatriot education in Taiwan. He encouraged representatives of the delegation to expand their influence in promoting OCAC policies worldwide and expressed his hope that the accomplishments of alumni would inspire younger generations to pursue their education and career development in Taiwan.
The delegation comprised 23 presidents and executive members from Taiwan alumni associations in 11 countries and regions—Laos, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia, France, Vietnam, Myanmar, Hong Kong, Brunei, and Timor-Leste—along with 17 representatives from Taiwan-based alumni associations. During the trip, the WFTAA visited the Executive Yuan, Legislative Yuan, Taipei City Government, convened its Board of Directors and Supervisors Meeting, and members also attended the Golden Jubilee Banquet celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Federation of Hong Kong Alumni Associations of Taiwan Universities. Furthermore, the delegation also visited to National Taichung University of Science and Technology, Chung Yuan Christian University, as well as several key technology and cultural sites. These visits provided delegates with firsthand insights into Taiwan’s latest advancements in smart technology, cultural creativity, and intelligent transportation.
Throughout the program, participants exchanged experiences on overseas compatriot student counseling and alumni association operations, generating valuable insights and mutual learning.
