A valid Overseas Compatriot Identity Endorsement may be used as proof for non-military purposes in determining rights or obligations, such as taking examinations, making investments, or studying in the R.O.C. (Taiwan).
In addition, according to Article 6, Paragraph 1 of the Regulations Governing Passport Issuance and Overseas Residence Endorsements for Males Who Have Not Yet Fulfilled Military Service Obligations issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, males of conscription age who have departed from the R.O.C. (Taiwan) and hold a passport with an Overseas Compatriot Identity Endorsement, but are not yet subject to immediate conscription, may apply for a passport renewal at a nearby R.O.C. (Taiwan) overseas mission, or through institutions or designated organizations established or authorized by the Executive Yuan in Hong Kong or Macao. The renewal procedures and passport validity shall follow the standard regulations.
