The primary regulation is the Regulations for the Conscription of Naturalized Citizens and Returning R.O.C. (Taiwan) Nationals Residing Overseas. It was established in line with the national overseas compatriot affairs policy, taking into account that many overseas compatriots have long resided abroad. To prevent them from being immediately subject to conscription upon returning to the R.O.C. (Taiwan) to handle personal matters, and to provide those returning to settle in the R.O.C. (Taiwan) with an appropriate adjustment period, the regulation stipulates that conscription procedures shall be carried out only after an Overseas Compatriot Conscription Male has resided in the R.O.C. (Taiwan) for a specified period of time.
