The Overseas Community Affairs Council (OCAC) hosted The 72nd Seminar of North America Overseas Community in Taipei from June 16th to 20th, bringing together 34 community leaders from across the United States and Canada. The program opened with remarks from OCAC Vice Minister Liang-Ming Chang and concluded with a comprehensive forum chaired by Deputy Minister Jhao-Syong Ruan.

Deputy Minister Ruan emphasized that North America has long been a vital region for overseas communities development. He thanked participants for their dedication and encouraged them to apply what they learned to promote Taiwan abroad, strengthen cooperation among organizations, and nurture the next generation of leaders to sustain cultural heritage and enhance Taiwan’s international visibility.

During the comprehensive forum, participants shared insights on funding, talent cultivation, cultural identity, and collaboration. Many focused on the future of FASCA (Formosa Association of Student Cultural Ambassadors). Suggestions included turning FASCA experiences into valuable credentials for young people entering the workforce, as well as expanding cultural programming that highlights Taiwan’s city chracteristics to attract both younger participants and mainstream audiences.

In response, OCAC shared plans for FASCA to form an independent association, while Deputy Minister Ruan highlighted "Taiwan Day" events with MLB as a way to engage younger overseas Taiwanese through sports and culture.
