As health officials anticipate an October surge in seasonal influenza, Taiwan has launched an innovative "health coin" program to encourage vaccination and routine medical checkups. The program allows eligible residents to collect virtual coins redeemable for real-world currency, ranging from approximately US$25 to US$400 depending on the number of completed shots and health screenings. Over 23,000 people signed up within the first hour of registration. Priority during the initial wave is given to high-risk demographics, including older adults aged 65 and over, children under 18, pregnant women and healthcare workers.
