The latest edition of the Global State of Democracy, published by Sweden's International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance, has ranked Taiwan seventh in the world for citizen participation. The latest edition also saw Taiwan rise in ranking in legislative oversight, while it dropped in judicial independence. The report, which tracks a total of 173 countries, concludes that the impacts of Taiwan Strait tensions on democracy are a key area to watch.
