The 2026 English Teaching Volunteer Service Program for Overseas Youth Set to Kick-off in July

Jointly organized by the Overseas Community Affairs Council (OCAC), the Ministry of Education, and the Hakka Affairs Council, the 2026 English Teaching Volunteer Service Program for Overseas Youth will take place from July 4 to 31. Building on the program’s achievements over many years, overseas youth will once again come to Taiwan for volunteer English teaching and cultural exchange. With their youthful energy and commitment, they will go onto local campuses, gaining a deeper understanding of Taiwan while opening a window to the world for young local students.

Since its launch in 2006, the volunteer service program has encouraged overseas youth to make their language skills a force for educational companionship. As well as helping Taiwanese students improve their English expression and practical communication skills, volunteers also guide students to widen their vision and understand different cultures through daily interaction, cultural sharing, and teamwork. In this way, English learning goes beyond textbooks and becomes a way of exploring the world and expressing oneself.

This year, 406 overseas youth volunteers from 20 countries will head to 66 elementary and junior high schools in 15 cities and counties in Taiwan for two-week teaching service. The first week of training will be held at Taipei Medical University. Through instructional skills training and teaching practice, volunteers will build confidence and have a clear mission before going into the classroom, allowing them to design interactive, inspiring and fun activities tailored to each school's local character.

From July 11 to 24, volunteers will teach at their respective schools. During the two-week period, they will work with school teachers and fellow team members to plan English-language activities to help students speak English naturally and confidently. The volunteers will experince a profound journey into Taiwan’s heartland, building meaningful, lifelong connections and taking away lifelong memories. To bring the program to a close, a Taiwan cultural tour will guide volunteers through Taiwan’s history, culture, natural landscapes, and ethnic cultures.

The OCAC emphasized that the program is a crucial bridge linking overseas youth, local schools, and Taiwanese culture. It hopes that this year’s participants will fully bring their talents into play and fill the classrooms with their enthusiasm and creativity. Through memorable interaction with students and communities, they will deepen their emotional connection to Taiwan and become valuable global ambassadors driving future international exchanges.
