US-Taiwan Trade Deal Nears Finish Line as Auto Tariffs Stir Debate

Taiwan and the United States are expected to sign a trade agreement in Washington that would lower tariffs on most Taiwanese goods from 20% to 15%. Taiwan would also commit US$500 billion in chip investment and financing in the US. But reports suggest Taiwan’s tariffs on US car imports could fall from 17.5% to zero, prompting concern from labor groups who warn of potential job losses in Taiwan's domestic auto sector.
