DUBLIN, IE – January 26, 2026 — The Dublin School of Mandarin Chinese (DSMC) galloped into the Lunar New Year, hosting almost 50 guests for an immersive celebration of the Year of the Horse. Held at the Alliance Française Dublin, the event blended traditional artistry with modern educational opportunities.

The festivities were graced by HE Ambassador Daniel Tang, Representative of the Taipei Representative Office (TRO) in Ireland, and his wife. In his keynote remarks, Ambassador Tang spoke about the special significance of the twelfth lunar month 臘月 with the guests. He took the opportunity of this festive occasion to convey an early lunar new year wish.

A Sensory Journey Through Taiwan

Madeleine Café was transformed into a hub of Taiwanese tradition, where attendees participated in a series of hands-on workshops:

Art & Performance: Guests mastered the art of "Spring Couplets" (春聯 Chunlian) calligraphy and engaged with the whimsical world of Taiwanese Glove Puppets, a hallmark of traditional folk theater.

Culinary Delights: The aroma of authentic Lunar New Year delicacies filled the air, with a special workshop dedicated to crafting Strawberry mochi —a sweet symbol of harmony.

Modern Interaction: The "Fortune Cookie Translation Wall," a Taiwanese tea tasting station, and a high-energy Kahoot Quiz on Lunar New Year trivia kept the atmosphere lively and educational.

Pathways to Excellence: Study in Taiwan

A key highlight of the evening was a specialised presentation on "Study and Scholarship Opportunities in Taiwan," delivered by the Ministry of Education representative, Virginia and Marc from the TRO in the UK. The attendees learned about the Taiwan Scholarships and Huayu Enrichment Scholarships etc, offering fully-funded pathways for students to pursue study in Taiwan.

Gratitude to Our Partners

The success of this event was made possible through the generous support of the Overseas Community Affairs Council (OCAC) and the Taipei Representative Office (TRO) in Ireland. Director of the Dublin School of Mandarin Chinese expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the key supporters of the event, including board members such as Tina Jan, Tess Hong and Syueping Ma, whose full support ensured the event's success.
