Taipei, Nov. 4 (CNA) Taiwan High Speed Rail Corp. (THSR) said Tuesday that its ridership reached 7.352 million passengers in October, setting a new monthly record as travel demand surged during three consecutive long weekends.

According to the company, extended holidays for the Mid-Autumn Festival (Oct. 6), National Day (Oct. 10), and Retrocession Day (Oct. 25) spurred a significant rise in passenger traffic, as many people took the opportunity to travel or visit family.

The average daily ridership in October stood at 237,000, up about 11 percent from the 2024 full-year average of 214,000, and 7.4 percent higher than the January-September average of 221,000, THSR said.

During the long weekends, average daily ridership reached 262,000 for the Mid-Autumn break, 250,000 for National Day, and 261,000 for Retrocession Day, according to the company.

THSR said it expects strong demand during holidays and peak travel seasons to continue until the new-generation trains enter service and expand its fleet of trains in mid-2027.
