The OCAC 2019 Southeast Asia Trade and Economic Lecture Tour was held November 6-14, taking in Cirebon, Surabaya, Jakarta in Indonesia and Manila in the Philippines. The Overseas Community Affairs Council (OCAC) enlisted Prof. Chin Shih Wen of the Department of Plant Industry of Pingtung University of Science and Technology to lecture on New Agriculture and provide consulting services to enterprises.
From November 7 to 10, Prof. Chin Shih Wen presented three lectures arranged by the Taiwan Business Club Cirebon Indonesia, Taiwan Business Club, Surabaya and Jakarta Taiwan Entrepreneur Association and Federation of Overseas Chinese Traders Alumni of Indonesia; in total, more than 200 overseas compatriot and Taiwanese business people and overseas compatriot youth attended. Prof. Chin also made on site visits to three Taiwanese-owned business to provide consulting services, visiting an orchid garden, vegetable and fruit farm and ginger farm; he provided his professional opinion on varieties to be planted and harvesting that will be of substantial benefit to the farmers. November 12 to 13, Prof. Chin provided consulting service to 2 Taiwanese-owned enterprises in the Manila area and presented a lecture on New Agriculture arranged by the FIL-CHI Love and Care Foundation Inc. and Taiwan Association (Phils) Inc. in Tarlac City, Luzon. Tarlac city councilor Ato led personnel from the city department of agriculture to attend, and more than 60 people attended in all.
In each lecture, Prof. Chin shared “growing techniques trends and related equipment and environments relating to Taiwanese orchids, fruit and vegetables and matters to pay attention to when engaged in the industry”. Attending overseas compatriot and Taiwanese business people engaged in lively discussion with the professor with regard greenhouse and net house equipment, soil pests, fertilizer use, the issue of genetic modification and practical experience of orange, rice, fruit corn and flower growing. This lecture tour promoted business opportunity cooperation between overseas compatriot and Taiwanese agricultural enterprises and sharing of Taiwan’s excellent agricultural technology with figures in mainstream society and was very successful. Prof. Chin returned to Taiwan on November 14 after successfully completing the lecture tour.
