The closing ceremony for the 8th term of the Overseas Community Affairs Council (OCAC) Compatriot Youth Taiwan Study Tour was held on December 24 at Asia University. It was hosted by OCAC Deputy Minister Roy Yuan-Rong Leu and Lin Tien-fu, Director of Industry-Academia Collaboration Asia University, and was also attended by Sik Lin Chuan, President of the Malaysian-Chinese Youth Counseling Association.
This term ran from December 6-26 and the program included visits to Lanyang Museum, National Museum of Natural Science, Taroko National Park and a visit to Wutu Community in Yunlin County for agricultural experience. The Study Tour had 199 enthusiastic participants from Malaysia.
During the closing ceremony, participants took it in turn to show their various skills on stage and described the interesting things that had happened over the previous 20 days. They thanked the OCAC for its meticulous planning and implementation of the Study Tour and to the counsellors for taking care of them. They also hoped that they will have a chance to get together again after returning to Malaysia.
Deputy Minister Leu said that Malaysian overseas compatriot youth have always taken part enthusiastically in the Taiwan Study Tour and hoped that, through this activity, participants gained a better understanding of Taiwan’s higher education. He welcomed them to come back to Taiwan for higher study.
Deputy Minister Leu also hoped that, after three weeks of facing part in this Taiwan Study Tour and witnessing in person free democratic Taiwan, its technology and environmental protection achievements and open and diverse society, they will share the highlights of what they have seen with the overseas community and mainstream society when they return to Malaysia so that more people know about Taiwan and its achievements.
