In response to the growing overseas affairs in Vietnam, the OCAC Ha Noi was established in July 2017. This center primarily works to enhance the communication with overseas compatriots in Northern Vietnam and Laos.
Taiwan has been one of the largest economic partners of Vietnam in trade and investment for years. In 2018, Taiwan came in 4th for investments made into Vietnam, and also was the 5th largest trade partner of Vietnam. As of 2018, Taiwan is the largest importer of Vietnamese labor. These two countries have developed a strong relationship in fields such as finance, science, technology, health, and education.
Being the primary overseas Taiwanese group in Vietnam, the Council of Taiwanese Chambers of Commerce in Vietnam has established over 14 branches across the nation. Presently, there are 5 total branches in the northern provinces, including Ha Noi, Hai Phong, Thai Binh, Bac Ninh and Ha Tinh. The council serves as a platform to enhance the communication between the members, provide opportunities for business, and assist foreign investors in Vietnam.
OCAC Ha Noi primarily provides services such as the communication of overseas Taiwanese groups, the promotion of culture and education of Taiwan, enhancement of overseas Taiwanese trading services and repatriation of overseas Taiwanese students for education.
