In the first arms deal following January's presidential election, the U.S. has sold Taiwan the Link 16 battlefield communications system, which shares real-time tactical data between Taiwan's U.S.-made military assets. Taiwan's coast guard has released an audio recording of the encounter with a Chinese boat that ended in the deaths of two Chinese nationals. And stock markets in Taiwan and Japan rose to record highs on Friday, buoyed by the performance of American AI chipmaker Nvidia. Also:
- The Cabinet has approved a plan to develop a tech corridor in northern Taiwan to create an "Asian Silicon Valley."
- University students have been flocking to sign up to chipmaker TSMC's new course on semiconductor engineering, with the prospect of a job interview at the company on graduation.
- Taiwanese companies are out in force at this year's Singapore Airshow, seeking greater international visibility and hoping to find overseas partners.
