As the Lunar New Year approaches, the Washington School of Chinese Language and Culture (WSCLC) hosted a "2024 Lunar New Year Celebration" on February 3rd at Wootton High School in Rockville, Maryland. The event gathered students, parents, and over 200 guests to come and celebrate the Year of the Dragon.

The celebration featured a variety of programs. The evening began with a lively lion dancing performance followed by a "Welcome Spring with Colorful Bells" folk dance. Performances by the kindergarten and elementary school classes were a highlight, as the cheerful children and enthusiastic performances brought laughter and warmth to the event. Mandarin-Learning adult students prepared a special program called "WSCLC is a Big Family" to convey heartfelt New Year blessings. The climax of the evening was a humorous and lively crosstalk performance by fourth-grade students which concluded with a roaring applause from the audience. In addition, both karate and diabolo performances, which combined traditional and modern elements, presented stunning visuals for attendees.

The Parents' Association of WSCLC interspersed raffle draws throughout the program, bringing continuous surprises to the entire celebration. The board of directors also expressed their gratitude to all faculty members during the evening and distributed red envelopes as a blessing and token of their appreciation.

The 2024 WSCLC Lunar New Year Celebration came to a perfect conclusion with a popular Mandarin song from Taiwan, "My Future is not a Dream", sung by the tenth and the eleventh-grade students. The Lunar New Year celebration is not just a festive event, but an occasion that underscores the importance of cultural heritage in the overseas Asian community. As a platform for students to showcase the language skills and cultural aspects they have learned in school, this event strengthens their connection to their heritage. In the spirit of Lunar New Year, this event successfully brought the community together to celebrate.
