Taipei, Feb. 4 (CNA) Fares for taxi rides in various areas across Taiwan are set to increase for the Lunar New Year holiday from Feb. 5.
Taipei, New Taipei, Keelung
Time: Feb. 5-14
A NT$30 (US$0.95) surcharge, a NT$20 nighttime surcharge (11 p.m. to 6 a.m.), or national highway toll fees will be automatically included in metered fares during the period.
Taoyuan
Time: Feb. 5-14
A surcharge of NT$50 per ride for regular taxi services in Taoyuan during the period; a NT$100 surcharge for those hailing a cab from taxi stands at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport.
Taichung, Tainan, Kaohsiung
Time: Feb. 5-14
A surcharge of NT$50 per ride will be included in metered fares.
Taxi drivers will be required to use a function in their new meters that automatically adds the surcharge to the fare and directly displays the total on the meter.
Hsinchu City and County
Time: Feb. 7-14
A 30 percent increase in metered fares.
Miaoli County
Time: Feb. 8-14
A 30 percent increase in metered fares.
Nantou County
Time: Feb. 8-14
A surcharge of NT$50 per journey.
Changhua County
Time: Feb. 8-14
An extra NT$50 in taxi meter initial fares.
Yunlin County
Time: Feb. 7-14
A surcharge of NT$50 on top of the nighttime charges for both day and night taxi services.
Chiayi City and County
Time: Feb.8-14
A surcharge of NT$50 on top of the nighttime charges for both day and night taxi services.
Pingtung County
Time: Feb. 5-14
A surcharge of NT$50 on top of the original prices.
Yilan County
Time: Feb. 5-14
NT$150 for the first 1.25 kilometers, and NT$5 for every 200 meters of the continued journey, plus NT$5 for every 100 seconds for slow-moving taxis at under 5km per hour.
Hualien County
Time: Feb. 7-14
A surcharge of NT$50 on top of the nighttime charges for both day and night taxi services.
Taitung County
Time: Feb. 7-16
A surcharge of NT$50 on top of the nighttime charges for both day and night taxi services.
Kinmen Cpounty
Time: Feb. 8-14
Charges will be the same as night fares throughout the day.
