President Tsai Ing-wen is facing calls to visit Taiping Island, a contested island in the South China Sea, to affirm the country's sovereignty in her final months in office. Environmental activists are challenging the government over the country's climate laws introduced last year, demanding "intergenerational" justice on the issue. And the American Chamber of Commerce in Taiwan has reported a positive outlook for the coming year showing the large majority of U.S. companies intend to maintain or expand their investments in the country. Also:
- A new survey shows more men in Taiwan are taking parental leave and more women moving into traditionally male-dominated fields.
- Leslie Liao meets Olivia Chen, a Taiwanese-American entrepreneur helping Taiwanese farmers reach new markets as she grows her milk tea business in California.
- Birdwatchers have been delighted by the return of a flock of migratory cormorants to northern Taiwan.
