Taipei, Dec. 26 (CNA) Taiwan fast food chain Bafang Dumpling recently opened its fifth and will soon open its sixth U.S. branch in southern California, the company said Tuesday.

The restaurant chain, which opened its first U.S. outlet in City of Industry, California in March 2022, has since expanded to three other locations in and around Los Angeles.

In a press release Tuesday, the company said it opened its fifth U.S. location on Dec. 23, at the Brea Mall in the Orange County city of Brea.

A sixth store, in Mira Mesa, San Diego, is also scheduled to have a trial opening on Dec. 28 and to officially open on Jan. 5, the statement said.

Looking ahead, the company said it plans to continue opening small-scale branches in the U.S., such as in food courts or even drive-thru stores, in order to optimize order delivery times and reduce labor costs.

In terms of the menu, a set of six dumplings or pot stickers at Bafang's U.S. locations costs US$5.25, while a set of 12 costs US$10 -- equivalent to around NT$26 per dumpling, compared to NT$6.5 in Taiwan.

Meanwhile, a dozen dumplings with a side of hot and sour soup or corn chowder costs US$11.75, while the most expensive item on the menu -- Taiwanese beef noodle soup -- costs US$16.75, according to the company.

The retailer's U.S. stores also offer various noodle and side dishes, soy milk, "hand-shaken" drinks and frozen dumplings/pot stickers with both meat and vegetarian fillings.

Founded in 1998, Bafang Dumpling currently has over 1,000 stores across Asia, and also holds ownership stakes in the local brands Dante Coffee and Liang She Han Pork Ribs.

The company was listed on the Taiwan Stock Exchange in 2021.
