Culture Center of Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in the U.S.

The Culture Center of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office (TECRO) serves Washington, D.C., Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, and Delaware. According to the U.S. Census Bureau's 2025 Population Estimates, the Center's service jurisdiction has a total population of approximately 18.66 million, including about 694,000 in Washington, D.C., 6.26 million in Maryland, 8.88 million in Virginia, 1.77 million in West Virginia, and 1.06 million in Delaware.

Based on the U.S. Census Bureau's American Community Survey (ACS) and the annual statistical reports of the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), the number of people of Chinese heritage within the Center's service jurisdiction is estimated at approximately 195,000. Among them, approximately 28,500 are Taiwanese immigrants and people of Taiwanese descent.

The Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association (CCBA) plays a leading role among the various overseas compatriot communities in the Washington metropolitan area. Established in 1951 and consisting of 30 overseas compatriot associations, the CCBA has steadfastly supported the R.O.C. (Taiwan) for decades. In addition, there are around 180 overseas compatriot communities originating from Taiwan.

There are also 18 Chinese schools that work closely with the CCTECRO to promote Mandarin education and Taiwanese culture. In addition, five Taiwan Centers for Mandarin Learning (TCML) have been established in the Greater Washington, D.C. area.
