In recent year, the strong demand for local job opportunities and career development has sparked growing enthusiasm among overseas Taiwanese young professionals in the UK for participating in career events. On the 15th of November 2024, the UK Taiwanese Chamber of Commerce-Junior Chapter (UKTCC-JC) and the King's College London Taiwanese Society (KCL Taiwanese Society) jointly hosted the "UK Career Strategy Forum." Held at Birkbeck, University of London, the event attracted nearly 80 participants. The forum featured two professionals specializing in data and business analysis, who shared insights on career development and strategies for enhancing value in the workplace. Over half of the attendees were working professionals, while the rest comprised job seekers and overseas Taiwanese youth and students in the UK looking for career transitions.
Dr. Shih-Hao Tan, a Quantitative Analyst at Bank of America, drew on his extensive experience in data analysis and risk management within the financial industry to highlight the growing demand for quantitative analysis in today's financial markets. He emphasized that data-driven decision-making has become the norm and encouraged young professionals aspiring to enter the financial sector to focus on enhancing their analytical skills and interdisciplinary knowledge. This includes developing specialized expertise and mastering risk assessment to open up more career opportunities.
The other speaker, Andrew Lee, a business analyst and former president of the KCL Taiwanese Society, discussed the qualities required for the business consulting industry and its career prospects. Drawing from his own job-seeking experience, he emphasized the importance of demonstrating logical thinking and problem-solving skills during interviews. He also shared strategies for building a competitive edge and workplace value in highly competitive environments. Andrew also highlighted the importance of soft skills and encouraged young job seekers to remain agile.
David Tsai, President of the KCL Taiwanese Society and organizer of the forum, shared that future events will focus on themes such as finance, entrepreneurship, and AI. These events aim to foster a supportive platform for overseas Taiwanese youth through professional knowledge exchange. Shane Day, UKTCC-JC President and an experienced organizer of career seminars, noted the strong learning motivation among Taiwanese job seekers. He affirmed the Chamber's commitment to sharing more career development resources and strengthening the cohesion of the Taiwanese community in the UK.
