The Overseas Community Affairs Council (OCAC) has been prioritizing and serving overseas compatriots and expatriates for the last 80 years. In order to provide the most direct service to overseas compatriots, OCAC founded the world's first Culture Center in San Francisco Chinatown in 1985. For the business or personal use of our compatriots, we have a library of traditional Chinese books and magazines, and also offer a rentable meeting space. To better connect with our compatriots, we also work to organize activities and provide relevant information.
The center has been leasing properties since its establishment in 1985. It was initially located in Stockton Street, close to the corner of Jackson Street. Later, in the process of moving the Center to Clay Street to facilitate better access, the Center temporarily closed in January 2006. The center re-opened in July 2011 to provide services in its present location on 739 Commercial Street.
