On April 18th , 2026, the FASCA Boston Chapter conducted a civic engagement tour of Newton City Hall, led by John Rice, the city's Chief of Community Services. Joined by Director Kao of the Boston Culture Center, students explored the historic 1932 landmark while learning about Newton's democratic evolution—from its 17th-century roots to its modern, inclusive 24-member City Council and the milestone election of its first female mayor. Rice highlighted the city's significant demographic shifts toward diversity and praised FASCA's ongoing contributions to the local community, particularly their vital role in supporting Newton Taiwan Day. By gaining firsthand insights into municipal governance and the importance of representation, the young ambassadors deepened their understanding of civic responsibility and the intersection of local politics with cultural advocacy.
