Taipei, Oct. 6 (CNA) United States Senator Michael Bennet is visiting Taiwan, where he will meet with senior Taiwanese officials to discuss issues related to U.S.-Taiwan relations, the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) announced Tuesday.
During his visit from Tuesday to Thursday, Bennet will engage in a series of high-level meetings with senior Taiwanese leaders to discuss U.S.-Taiwan relations, regional security and other issues of mutual interest, the de facto U.S. embassy in Taipei said in a press release.
It did not name which officials he will be meeting.
The Democratic senator has represented Colorado since 2009. He lost a Democratic Party primary for Colorado governor earlier this year, but his current term in the Senate runs until 2028.
A member of the Senate Intelligence, Finance, Agriculture and Rules committees, Bennet has led legislative efforts to enhance U.S.-Indo-Pacific intelligence cooperation and strengthen the U.S.-Taiwan space partnership, among other measures, the AIT said.
His trip to Taipei is part of a larger visit to the Indo-Pacific region and underscores the U.S. commitment to its partnership with Taiwan, while reaffirming a shared dedication to strengthening a free and open Indo-Pacific, it said.
