The OCAH held the 2018 Overseas Compatriot Student Scholarship Award Ceremony and End of Year Party on December 15. The event was hosted by OCAH President Huang Hai-long and legislator Lin Li-chan gave a speech in which she expressed care for overseas compatriot students. Overseas Community Affairs Council (OCAC) Vice Minister Roy Yuen-Rong Leu was in attendance and presented scholarships and certificates to 50 students on behalf of OCAC Minister Hsin-hsing Wu, witnessed by more than 20 OCAH directors and supervisors and 400 students.

Vice Minister Roy Leu thanked the OCAH for committing manpower and resources to overseas compatriot education and encouraged the recipients of the scholarships to be grateful for and repay the effort of their parents and teachers to nurture them by continuing to work hard at their studies to achieve academic progress. He stated that the OCAC has long supported overseas compatriot education and holds the Overseas Youth Vocational Training School and 3+4 Vocational Education Program for Overseas Compatriot Students to offer more Taiwan study options for overseas compatriot students; in more than 60 years, the overseas compatriot student policy has nurtured more than 100,000 overseas compatriot Taiwan alumni; they are a force that supports Taiwan and have assisted the government promote civil diplomacy for a long time, helping raise Taiwan’s international profile. He also encouraged the students and other students in their country of residence to go to the OCAC’s Overseas Compatriot Student website to find out information on channels for studying in Taiwan, scholarships, student loans and business startup loan guarantees, and welcomed them to use the Points- and Quota-Based Mechanism to stay in Taiwan to work or set up a business after graduation.
