2019 AI and IoT Industry Program for Overseas Compatriot Entrepreneurs

The Overseas Community Affairs Council (OCAC) held the 2019 AI and IoT Industry Program for Overseas Compatriot Entrepreneurs from September 30th to October 4th. 26 overseas compatriot entrepreneurs with investment potential and interest in cooperating with Taiwan’s Artificial Intelligence and Internet of Things (AIoT) industries from eight different countries. The aim was to build an exchange platform for overseas compatriot entrepreneurs and domestic AIoT companies to assist related domestic enterprises as well as to develop overseas channels and business opportunities. The Program was initially set to open on September 30th; however, the official starting date was delayed until October 1 due to Typhoon Mitag. OCAC Department of Business Affairs Director Wong Shu-hwa chaired a general discussion meeting on October 4th. OCAC Minister Wu Hsin-hsing chaired a farewell lunch after his appointment at the Legislative Yuan the same day; he encouraged attendees to engage and cooperate with domestic enterprises to jointly create business opportunities.
The Program members visited the Asia Silicon Valley Development Agency (ASVDA) and six outstanding domestic AIoT enterprises, to gain a better understanding of domestic industry and the technology development situation, and to increase their knowledge of Taiwan’s industrial advantages, resources and investment environment; one business opportunity matching meeting was also held, at which participants had a chance in exchange with representatives of 16 domestic AIoT enterprises. Program participants said they learned a lot, such activities will help them running their overseas business; they also expressed a willingness to serve as a platform for matching domestic and overseas talents and funding, to boost AIoT enterprises’ domestic and overseas exchanges and investment.
