In line the government's policy of attracting more investment in Taiwan and to build a platform for exchange between overseas compatriot entrepreneurs and domestic startups, the Overseas Community Affairs Council (OCAC) held the 2019 Taiwan Startup Investment Program for Overseas Compatriot Entrepreneurs April 22-26. The group comprised of 28 overseas compatriots who have overseas investment capability and are interested in investing in domestic startups, cooperating with domestic startups or that can assist Taiwanese startups expand their overseas markets from 16 countries (the US, Canada, Ecuador, the UK, the Netherlands, Indonesia, the Philippines, Malaysia, Australia and New Zealand.) OCAC Minister Wu Hsin-hsing chaired a general discussion meeting on April 26 during which he listened to the ideas of the program participants.
   The group paid a visit to the National Development Council and four incubators, namely, FinTechSpace, Taiwan Startup Stadium, Asia Silicon Valley Development Agency and Taichung Ideax Incubation; six outstanding domestic startups were also visited: Han-Win Technology Co. Ltd, RFD Micro Electricity Co., Ltd, Lioshutan Digital Learning Inc., Long Good Meditech Ltd., Tracmo Inc. and the team from Luxury Logi Co behind the mechanical flowers of Taichung World Flora Expo. During the visits, program participants had a chance to interact with senior management and explore business opportunities, gain an understanding of the startup situation at present and increase the understanding of overseas compatriot entrepreneurs of the advantages and resources of Taiwan's startups and the Taiwan investment environment. Moreover, on April 26 the Taiwan Startup Investment Forum was held and a business opportunity discussion meeting also arranged in which program participants were able to explore business opportunities with 17 Taiwanese startups. All program participants said they had gained a lot from taking part in the program and had obtained an understanding of the startup development situation in Taiwan as well as engaged in exchange with domestic startups, which will help them with overseas business operation; they also expressed a wish to assist Taiwanese startups establish a presence in their countries of residence to boost the overseas and domestic investment momentum of Taiwan’s startups.
