To help teachers in overseas compatriot schools around the world continue to increase their capacity under the impact of the pandemic, and to strengthen their professional competence in the new era of online teaching,the Overseas Community Affairs Council (OCAC) organized the first " Online Distance Learning Program for Mandarin Teachers in 2020 " from 28 July to 24 August under the auspices of Chung Yuan Christian University, which will train 82 teachers from overseas compatriot schools around the world who are currently teaching in overseas compatriot schools or  mainstream schools.
The themes of this course, which lasts 28 days, will be "Teaching Mandarin to Children and Young People" and " Digital  Mandarin Teaching." In addition to weekly online synchronous sessions with Mandarin teachers from all over the world, the trainers in Taiwan also provide several asynchronous courses so that learners from all over the world can access the courses at a move convenient time. After-class discussions and experience sharing also enable teachers from all over the world to share different policies and teaching methods in different places.
The OCAC said teacher training activities around the world have been suspended or postponed as a result of the pandemic, which increases the need for teachers to improve their distance learning skills. Besides opening online seminars to meet the needs of overseas Mandarin teachers, the OCAC also hosts online talks on various topics and provides teaching materials on Huayuworld.rog, hoping to help overseas Mandarin teachers become better equipped for new teaching scenarios in times of the pandemic.
