The Taiwanese Chamber of Commerce in Korea held its first online lecture under the joint promotion of President Chun-Hua Lee and Vice President Hong-Liang Cheng in early April, in which they invited Institute for Information Industry (III) Deputy Director Ling-Ru Lai to speak on the fundamental concepts of e-commerce. In addition to her presentation on Taiwan's e-commerce market and brands, Lai also gave an overall analysis of current e-commerce development in Korea. Meanwhile, the Chamber members' shared their experience in online sales in the Korean market. The online discussion was lively with over 30 participants.
The first speaker invited to speak at the event was Taipei Mission in Korea Section Chief Chi-Jung Lin, she introduced important OCAC service programs such as the Industry Upgrading and Technical Service for Global Compatriot Businessmen Program, Global Overseas Businessmen Industry-Academia Cooperation Program, Global Young Entrepreneur Stars selection, i-Compatriot Card application and the Overseas Compatriot Service Handbook. Lin's speech was followed by Deputy Director Lai's presentation on e-commerce models, issues of concern for e-commerce, and success models. Lai also analyzed Taiwanese e-commerce platforms and business models, and performed an overall analysis of Korean e-commerce platforms, e-commerce market size and penetration rate.
The lecture concluded with presentations from e-commerce businesses in the women's wear, children's wear, and vegetable and fruit market. The Chamber members Hong-Liang Cheng and Guang-Rong Shou, and Deputy Director Jui-Hong Liu of the Chinese Residents' Association in Seoul shared their experiences in online sales in Korea. The floor was then opened to a lively discussion between presenters and Deputy Director Lai and all online participants on issues such as the advantages and challenges of online sales, and the differences between various online platforms. After the lecture ended, members of the Chamber continued their exchanges over dinner. As the online lecture was well received by all participants, the Chamber has stated that they would continue to explore the possibility of inviting speakers from Taiwanese catering or other industries, and the academia, to give online presentations.
