On July 28, The Federation of Alumni Association of Taiwan Universities, Malaysia (FAATUM) held the 44th Chinese Culture Night. The event was hosted by the FAATUM’s President Dato' Ting Siew Haw and attended by Roy Leu Yuen-rong, the Vice Minister of the Overseas Community Affairs Council (OCAC), and Taiwan’s official representative in Malaysia, Representative Anne Hung, who both gave speeches. In total, around 870 people attended, and the party was grand and lively occasion enjoyed by all.
Anne Hung said that the FAATUM jointly promotes various work items together with Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Malaysia, including holding the Taiwan Higher Education Fair, providing guidance to overseas compatriot students in Malaysia to help them attend university in Taiwan, publicizing enrollment for the Overseas Youth Vocational Training School (OYVTS) and The 3+4 Vocational Education Program for Overseas Compatriot Students, and promoting cultural and academic exchange between Taiwan and Malaysia. OYVTS Night will be held for the first time in October this year, aiming to bring alumni closer together. She thanked the FAATUM for the long-term support and assistance provided by all its members that has allowed the relationship and exchange between Taiwan and Malaysia to become, deeper, wider and stronger.
OCAC Minister Wu Hsin-hsing passed on his greetings to the alumni through a video; he specially praised the FAATUM’s president for striving over many years to increase the influence of Chinese in Malaysia and well as unifying and bringing Taiwan alumni closer. He said that the OCAC will continue to provide overseas compatriot students with a complete study environment and also provide comprehensive care to overseas compatriot students with respect to study guidance etc. In his speech, OCAC Vice Minister Leu expressed gratitude and best wishes to the Federation on behalf of Minister Wu and said that the OCAC will continue to effectively carry out the work of taking care of overseas compatriot students and contacting Taiwan alumni.
This event was also attended by guests including Taiwan’s Political Deputy Minister of Education Yao Leeh-ter, speaker of the Penang State Legislative Assembly Y.B. Dato' Law Choo Kiang, World Federation of Taiwan Alumni Associations President Han Pau Ting, Taipei Investors' Asso-ciation in Malaysia President Lin Young-chang, Malaysian Chamber of Commerce in Taipei Chairman Datuk James KC Lau, and The Kuala Lumpur and Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall Pres-ident Datuk Ong Seng Khek.
