Penang Alumni Association of Taiwan Universities & Colleges holds the grand Chinese Culture Night to bring members closer together

Persatuan Siswazah-Siswazah Taiwan Pulau Pinang (Penang Alumni Association of Taiwan Universities & Colleges) held the 42nd Chinese Culture Night on July 22, with President  Lim Goay Huah as host. Both Overseas Community Affairs Council (OCAC) Deputy Minister Kao Chien-chih and Taiwan’s official representative in Malaysia Representative Anne Hung were in attendance and gave their best wishes. The grand event was attended by around 750 people and had a happy atmosphere.

OCAC Minister Wu Hsin-hsing passed on his greetings to the alumni through a video; in it, he       praised the alumni for their unity and stated that the OCAC provides a complete study environment to overseas compatriot students and, in conjunction with the Ministry of Education and other units,  is  continuing to relax regulations on study channels for compatriot youth to study in Taiwan as well as providing complete care and support. The government of the ROC  is promoting the New Southbound policy, he said, and hopes to enhance relations with Malaysia and other ASEAN countries; Malaysian alumni of Taiwan universities and colleges  have an important role in making Taiwan  and Malaysia’s bilateral relationship closer. During the event, Kao Chien-chih presented a hanging  scroll  to the Association on behalf of OCAC Minister Wu Hsin-hsing and thanked the alumni for  supporting the ROC and cherishing Taiwan.

Anne Hung stated that the Penang Alumni Association of Taiwan Universities & Colleges actively assists the OCAC provide guidance for further study in Taiwan to compatriot students, with promotion of and enrollment for the  Overseas Youth  Vocational Training School (OYVTS) and the Vocational Education Program for Overseas Compatriot Students and with organizing the Chinese New Year Cultural Goodwill Mission performances; it also often holds lectures on different themes  with overseas compatriot groups to bring together Penang’s Taiwan alumni and serve society; the Association also provides a scholarship to help disadvantaged Malaysian compatriot students study in Taiwan. Anne Hung thanked the Association  for its support and assistance that have deepened, widened and strengthened Taiwan-Malaysia exchange. 

Leading figures in the local overseas community in Malaysia such as Y.B. Dato' Law Choo Kiang, Chairman Datuk Khor Ten How of Penang Chinese Town Hall (PCTH), President Dato' Ting Siew Haw of the Federation of Alumni Association of Taiwan Universities, Malaysia, President Chin Chee Kong, National Vice-President Dato' Lee Hung Lung and Mr.Kang Yao Chong of Taiwan Investors' Association Malaysia (TIAM), and Penang State Legislative Assembly member Heng Lee Lee were also in  attendance.
