The Taiwan Chambers of Commerce in Paraguay - Junior Chapter held a family social event June 15-16; during the two day get together, York (Tseng Han-Hui), a well-known female Taiwanese blogger who spent time as a volunteer in Brazil, shared  with attendees her experience of serving in The Big Community in Rio (a.k.a the favela Rocinha in Rio de Janeiro), overturning the stereotypes of and rumors about the ghettoes of Rio and introducing the environment of the Big Community in Rio and its service institutions.

York chose to serve at Luciana’s Nursery in Rocinha community. She used the power of the Internet to raise some money to renovate its wooden kitchen, paint the walls, re-lay the floor and even install two air conditioning machines, bringing substantial improvement to the living environment of the children and making a safer and more comfortable place for them.

Honorary President of the Taiwanese Chambers of Commerce in Latin America (TCCLA) Derek Chang Teh Huei also attended York’s lecture. He said that this year, guided by the spirit of paying back society the TCCLA has supported the social welfare program of the First Lady of Paraguay. He said he was pleased to see Junior Chapter members have such awareness of social welfare in their country of residence so early in their business careers. Local Taiwanese businesses all depend on the assistance of local workers, he said, and caring about the community environment these workers live in at a suitable time is very helpful in terms of building the relationship between Taiwanese businesses, local communities and the government and can also promote the development of harmonious relations between different ethnic groups.

On the day, around 70 people including ROC Consul General in Ciudad del Este Lucas Chen, President of the Taiwan Chambers of Commerce in Paraguay Marco Chin-chi Lin and Junior Chapter members attended the lecture and the atmosphere was lively.
Lecturer York shared her experiences of working in the Big Community in Rio.
