Nostalgia for Taiwan: Bringing Children Home to Learn the Language of Their Parents’ Native Land ─ 2019 Short-Term In-School Experiential Study Program for Overseas Compatriot Children and Adolescents
This year the Overseas Community Affairs Council (OCAC) , Education Administration (EA), Ministry of Education and local governments are hosting the “Nostalgia for Taiwan: Bringing Children Home to Learn the Language of Their Parents’ Native Land - Short-term In-School Experiential Study Program for Overseas Compatriot Children and Adolescents” (hereafter the Program). The Program is meant for homecoming overseas compatriots to bring their 6-to-15-year-old children along and leave them with local schools as they visit family members or go on business trips in Taiwan. During their stay at local schools, the children will gain better understanding of Taiwanese cultures and customs. The aim is to increase the willingness of overseas compatriots to bring their children back to Taiwan and provide overseas compatriot children or adolescents with an opportunity to study alongside their peers in Taiwan. This will enable them to learn about customs and life in Taiwan, so they better identify with Taiwanese culture and develop a deeper emotional attachment to the country. Overseas compatriots who want their children to take part in the Program should fill in an application form (Attachment A) and submit it to an R.O.C(Taiwan) embassy or representative office or a Culture Center of Taipei Economic and Cultural Office within the allotted time period. In principle, applicants can apply for their children to attend local schools for 5 to 30 school days. We accept one stay per semester, up to 2 stays per application, and one application per year. After collecting applications (Attachment A) from the OCAC, the EA will arrange related short-term in-school experiential study programs and notify the OCAC of the results; overseas compatriots will then be able to select a short-term experiential program for their children based on their own schedule. Please refer to the attached program file and schools list. If you have any questions, please contact the OCAC (TEL:886-2-2327-2687,E-mail:firstname.lastname@example.org).
