To keep overseas youth activities up-to-date, promote the spirit of international volunteering and encourage expatriate youth volunteers to take part in English teaching activities in Taiwan, the OCAC in cooperation with the King Car Education Foundation have held the "ABC Schweitzer English Camp", which has invited interested expatriate youth to serve in Taiwan since 2004.
In light of the warm reception and significance of such service-based activities, the Overseas Youth English Teaching Volunteer Service Program was held for the first time in 2006 by the OCAC in cooperation with the Ministry of Education. The OCAC is responsible for recruiting overseas volunteers while the Ministry of Education chooses middle (elementary) schools in Taiwan to host the camps. The program lasts four weeks and injects the boundless innovation and vitality of expatriate youth into Taiwanese society. It raises the English-learning confidence and the desire to learn in children from remote schools, which lack resources. This program also enhances English-learning effectiveness.
