The Overseas Community Affairs Council (OCAC) held the OCAC 2019 Taiwan Chinese Cuisine Head Chef Workshop November 11-16 with the aim of meeting the business startup and competitiveness increase requirements of overseas compatriot and Taiwanese businesses. The Workshop was attended by 30 participants from 17 countries. The starting ceremony and welcome lunch were hosted by OCAC Vice Minister Roy Yuan-Rong Leu, accompanied by Wong Shu-hwa, Director General of the OCAC Department of Business Affairs, on November 11. Leu said Taiwan’s gastronomic culture is diverse and Taiwanese cuisine combines the best of different cuisines; he encouraged participants to put what they learn in the Workshop to good use when they return home.
On November 15, OCAC Deputy Minister Kao Chien-chih hosted the closing ceremony and  results presentation meal accompanied by Department of Business Affairs Senior Executive Officer Chung Yu-chang. Deputy Minister Kao congratulated participants for being selected for training in Taiwan and for completing the program; and also expressed the hope that they will promote the dishes that they learned how to make in their place of residence so that more people learn about Taiwan through gastronomy.

Participants learned a lot from the six days of practical courses, lectures, results presentation and enterprise visits and said they will take the knowledge and skills they have learned to develop their Chinese food business in their place of residence.
