The Overseas Community Affairs Council (OCAC) held the 2019 OCAC New Agriculture Industry Program for Overseas Compatriot Entrepreneurs from September 2 to 6 with the aim of increasing exchange and cooperation between domestic and overseas new agricultural business operators. The Program was attended by 28 overseas compatriots from 11 countries. OCAC Vice Minister Roy Yuan-Rong Leu welcomed the participants to Taiwan to learn about the current situation and advantages of Taiwanese agriculture. On September 6, OCAC Minister Wu Hsin-hsing chaired a general discussion meeting at which related suggestions were put forward.

The Program itinerary included visits to the Agricultural Technology Research Institute, Taiwan Agricultural Research Institute Council of Agriculture, Agricultural Research and Extension Station, World Vegetable Center and visits to eight new agriculture operators from Taipei to Pingtung to obtain an understanding of the current situation and technology of Taiwan’s new agriculture industry and explore potential opportunities for cooperation. When Minister Wu chaired the general discussion, all participants said they had gained much from the Program and that it will help them  run their overseas business; they also expressed a willingness to pay back Taiwan by serving as matching platforms for domestic and overseas talent and funds. Minister Wu invited participants to make good use of the resources of the OCAC and other government agencies to help new agriculture businesses at home and overseas link up and develop.
