2019 OCAC Taiwan Bio-tech Industry Investment Program for Overseas Compatriots

In support of the government’s policy of speeding up investment in Taiwan and to establish an exchange platform for overseas compatriot entrepreneurs and Taiwan’s bio-tech industry, the Overseas Community Affairs Council (OCAC) held the 2019 OCAC Taiwan Bio-tech Industry Investment Program for Overseas Compatriots July 29-August 2. 15 overseas compatriot entrepreneurs from nine regions in eight countries (the US, Malaysia, Indonesia the Philippines, the UK, Germany, Australia and Paraguay) with an interest in investing in the domestic bio-tech industry, cooperating with domestic bio-tech enterprises or helping Taiwan’s bio-tech industry expand its overseas market came to Taiwan to look for business opportunities. OCAC Deputy Minister Kao Chien-chih hosted the opening ceremony on July 29, welcoming participants. OCAC Minister Wu Hsin-hsing personally hosted a general discussion meeting on August 2 in which participants offered related suggestions. Visits were arranged for participants to the National Biotechnology Research Park and to nine outstanding domestic bio-tech enterprises, namely Ko Da Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., General Biologicals Corporation (GBC), Caduceus Biotechnology Inc., Somnics, Inc., BioLite, Inc., Pig Model Animal Technology Co., Ltd., Well Youth Biotech Co., Ltd., Dr. Oxford Bio-tech Factory Co., Ltd., and Pilot Biotechnology Co., Ltd. During the visits, Program participants were able to interact with senior managers to gain an understanding of the Taiwan bio-tech industry’s current situation, the advantages and trends of Taiwan’s bio-tech industry and Taiwan’s investment environment. A business opportunity matching meeting was also held in which participants discussed business opportunities with representatives of 18 domestic bio-tech companies. A general discussion meeting was also arranged for the morning of August 2; all participants said they had gained a lot from the Program and it will help them with running their overseas business operations. They also expressed willingness to assist Taiwan’s bio-tech enterprises establish or grow their presence in their places of residence, boosting bio-tech industry investment momentum at home and overseas.
