Taipei, Nov. 20 (CNA) Taiwanese athletes won a gold and a silver medal at the World Wushu Championships in Fort Worth, Texas over the weekend, according to the Sports Administration.

The biennial event, hosted by the International Wushu Federation, is considered the world's most prominent Chinese martial arts competition. In 2019, Taiwan bagged one gold and two bronze medals at the meet, while the 2021 edition was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

At this year's competition, Taiwan's Chen Yu-wei (陳宥崴) won a gold medal in Taijijian (Tai Chi sword), while Sun Chia-hung (孫家閎) won a silver in the men's Tai Chi, both on Saturday local time, the Sports Administration said in a press release Monday.

The strong performance comes after Taiwanese wushu athletes captured four medals at the Chengdu Olympiad over the summer, and a bronze medal at last month's Hangzhou Asian Games, the agency said.
