Taiwanese athletes win gold, silver medals at youth Olympics

Buenos Aires, Oct. 10 (CNA) Taiwanese athletes won a gold and a silver medal at the 2018 Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires, Argentina Wednesday -- the first medals for Taiwanese athletes at the international sports events.

Liu Li-ling, who was part of the Judo mix Beijing team in the 78 kilogram category, won gold after defeating Rose Christie Pretorius of the mix Athens team 4-3 in the final.

Chen Yi-tung, a member of the mixed continental Asia-Oceania 1 fencing team, took a silver medal after losing to Armand Spichiger of the Europe 1 team 25-28 in the gold match.

The third Summer Youth Olympic Games, also called Buenos Aires 2018, is being held from Oct. 6-18 in the Argentine capital, with 4,000 athletes aged 15-18 from 206 countries and areas competing in 32 events.
