Salaries to rise 4% for military, civil servants, public school teachers
Premier Chen Chien-jen on Thursday received a briefing from the Executive Yuan's Directorate-General of Personnel Administration regarding an adjustment to the salaries of all military personnel, civil servants and public school teachers in 2024. The premier said Taiwan's economic growth rate has been quite steady relative to the global average and other major economies in 2023, and Taiwan's consumer price index has risen as well. Public sector employees have also withstood hardships and made great contributions during the past years of the pandemic. In consideration of all these factors, the Executive Yuan has thus passed a 4% raise to their salaries, starting in 2024.
The premier emphasized that President Tsai Ing-wen's administration has now adjusted the remuneration of military personnel, civil servants and teachers on three separate occasions, resulting in a cumulative public sector salary increase of 11.4%. The premier hopes that this latest salary increase will help stimulate comparable salary increases in the private sector to benefit the wider population and share the fruits of economic growth.
