Hon Hai, TSMC remain Apple suppliers; Novatek, Winbond newly added

Taipei, May 24 (CNA) Apple Inc. added Taiwanese firms, including IC designer Novatek Microelectronics Corp. and memory producer Winbond Electronics Corp., to its latest list of suppliers as it continued to work with Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC).

According to the latest supplier list issued by Apple for fiscal year 2022, ending September that year, and announced on its website on Wednesday, the American company said plants of iPhone assembler Hon Hai, also known as Foxcoon on the global markets, located in India's Tamil Nadu state, the U.S. state of California and Vietnam's Bac Giang province remained on the list.

In contrast, Hon Hai's plants in China's Guangdong, Henan, Jiangsu, Shaanxi, Sichuan, Zhejiang and Hubei provinces, and factories located in Brazil's Amazonas and Sao Paulo and the U.S. state of Texas were removed from the list.

In addition to Hon Hai and TSMC, other Taiwanese manufacturers such as IC packaging and testing services firm Advanced Semiconductor Engineering Technology Holding Co., metal casing maker Catcher Technology Co., connector producer Cheng Uei Precision Industry Co., contract electronics maker Compal Electronics Inc., and printed circuit board (PCB) manufacturer Compeq Manufacturing Co., also appeared on the list.

Other Taiwanese suppliers included power management solution provider Delta Electronics Inc., smartphone camera lens makers Largan Precision Co., Genius Electronics Optical Co., memory chip supplier Nanya Technology Corp. and Pegatron Corp., a smaller iPhone assembler.

In addition to Novatek and Winbond, Taiwanese computer and peripheral equipment maker Primax Electronics Ltd., optical filter brand Platinum Optics Technology Inc., backlight LCD module developer Radiant Opto-Electronics Corp. were also added to the latest supplier list.

The plant in Taiwan owned by U.S.-based specialty material solutions provider Trinseo has also been placed on the latest Apple supplier list.

On the other hand, Taiwanese contract notebook computer maker Inventec Corp., IC substrate maker Kinsus Interconnect Technology Corp., cooling solution provider Asia Vital Components Co., and powder metallurgy supplier Taiwan Powder Technologies Co. were removed from the list.

According to Apple, the suppliers on the latest list represents 98 percent of the company's direct spending on materials, manufacturing, and assembly of its products worldwide for fiscal year 2022.
