Taiwan's Taoyuan airport named as having best airport staff
Taipei, March 15 (CNA) Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport has been named as having the world's best airport staff in the 2017 World Airport Awards organized by Skytrax, a British consultancy that runs an airline and airport review and ranking site.
Taoyuan airport, Taiwan's main international gateway, beat out Incheon International Airport in South Korea and Japan's Haneda Airport for the award.
During a ceremony held on Tuesday in Amsterdam, Tseng Dar-jen, chairman of Taoyuan International Airport Corp., accepted the awards for the world's best airport staff and Asia's best airport staff from Skytrax CEO Edward Plaisted, the airport company said.
Taoyuan airport won the same awards in 2015, Tseng said. It was not easy to defeat such strong competitors as Incheon and Haneda airports, which ranked first and second last year, and win back the honor, he added.
The award for Best Airport Staff recognizes airport workers who come into contact with travelers across a wide range of areas, including staff working at customer help counters, immigration and security personnel, shops, food and beverage outlets, Skytrax said.
Meanwhile, Taoyuan airport was ranked the 21st best airport in the world, down one notch from last year.
In the 2017 rankings, Singapore's Changi Airport was listed the world's best airport for the fifth consecutive year, followed by the Haneda and Incheon airports, Skytrax said.
A total of 13.82 million customers from 105 countries participated in the survey, which was conducted from July 2016 to February 2017 and covered 550 airports worldwide.
The survey evaluates customer satisfaction across various key performance indicators for airport services, including check-ins, arrivals, transfers, shopping, security, immigration and departures. (Courtesy of CNA)
