DOL to Hold 35 Labor Education Sessions for High Schoolers in 2021
In an effort to establish labor rights awareness among high school students, the Department of Labor (DOL) has organized labor rights seminars for high school students since 2014. The event attracts an average of 6,000 listeners per year.
Labor Commissioner Chen Hsin-yu noted that the agency invested much effort in promoting labor rights education on school campuses to raise awareness on this subject among students. Hopefully, the events will educate the students on what to look out for and how to protect themselves when working part-time jobs or entering the labor market later on in their life.
The commissioner emphasized that education cannot wait. DOL plans to hold 35 seminar sessions this year. It invites high school and vocational school to submit application for the event during the period between today and November 30.
As for details of the seminar, Chen remarked that the agency hires lecturers specialized in labor affairs to preside over the individual seminars. Seminar topics range from basic knowledge on part time job, job scams, working requirements, workplace harassment prevention to workplace safety and hygiene. Customized topics such as gender equality at workplaces and employer-worker dispute resolution are also available.
